Community Engagement Plan
Unified Dwelling will engage in the community by sending a letter to key organizations within the area to introduce them to the group home. The Executive Director shall hand out the community engagement letter to first responders and key community people within a local community. Additionally, Unified Dwelling will attend the local monthly city council meeting as a means to formally introduce the program to the community at large. The Executive Director may on occasion attend community affairs or meeting forums when time permits. The Executive Director or designee shall pass out the community engagement letter to various participants.
Protocols for the Community
The community will receive a letter containing key information including:
- A contact phone number for the Executive Director of the facility.
- Email address for the Executive Director
- Most effective manner to communicate (email)
- An email address to communicate concerns or other pertinent information directly to the facility.
- A 7-day response time to community request
- The website for Unified Dwelling with contact information listed
1.1.1 Responding to Community Request or Police Procedures for Staff
Staff members shall notify the Executive Director as soon as possible when community or police are engaging the group home. The purpose of the call is to brief the Executive Director or on the incident prior to implementing the procedures for community engagement response. All staff members shall receive direction, and guidance regarding the preference, of handling the situation from the Executive Director before implementing the procedure for responding to incidents involving resident of the facility.
Police Inquiries and response
The response shall not include details regarding the specific child’s name or family. The communication can be verbal. The person communicating with the official should request details regarding accusations or claims. The person should advise the police of the status of the group home and any special restrictions a child in question may have. The Police may be provided a picture of the child if AWOL or the need presents itself to better identify the child staying at the group home. The response should identify whether or not the youth was involved. The response should include the contact information for the Executive Director or staff member.
Community Inquires and Response
Staff should follow the less is more approach when communicating with the community. The person communicating with the community should request details regarding accusations or claims. The person should advise the community of the status of the group home and any special restrictions a child in question may have. Special restrictions may include:
- Resident is not permitted to enter the homes of others within the community
- Resident is not permitted to “hangout”
- Resident is not permitted to have pictures taken
The response to the community should attempt to identify whether or not the youth was involved. The response should include the contact information for the Executive Director or staff member. The communication can be verbal.
The Executive Director is the only person permitted to speak with the media regarding the group home or residents.
1.1.2 Community Engagement Training
Unified Dwelling shall ensure staff are trained on the implementation of the community engagement plan and procedures for responding to incidents involving a child at the facility and neighbors or the police.
If staff have not completed orientation training, the community engagement plan training shall be completed prior to the completion of orientation training.
If staff have completed orientation training, the group home shall ensure the staff are trained no later than sixty days after the community engagement plan is effective.

Unified Dwelling is a group home for girls licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. While much of the information regarding the residents is confidential, Unified Dwelling is responsive to concerns from the community.
